GODDAMN PC GAMING

By Plagiarize , 15th December 3:39 am

That’s it. I’m done. My experiences this past week with the new Prince of Persia game on PC have driven me over the edge.

I’m sure you’re all going to dive for the comments to tell me that ‘Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones’ isn’t a PC game, but I ask you to read my complaints before doing so. It is, after all, a game on PC, and it has for me, completely summed up all my problems with PC gaming.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the game to pieces, it’s more than I ever hoped for after the massive fumble that ‘Prince of Persia: Warrior Within’ was, and for me the best written game I’ve played all year. The game is great… certainly a must play title for fans of Sands of Time, so what’s my problem?

Getting to it.

Connecting with TEH KIDDIES

By Plagiarize , 8th December 2:27 am

I’ve spent a few weeks now playing around on Nintendo Wi-Fi connection and have picked up all the games so far available that work with the system, and as such here are my thoughts on the service that come based on real world experiences.

Mario Kart is kind of a thing of mine. I was one of those crazy people that jumped through hoops to race online with other people with Double Dash on the GameCube through the use of the broadband adapter, tunneling software on the PC, and a separate utility that would tell me if anyone else was looking for a game.

Obviously compared to that, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is a charm, but there are certain problems with it.

Shredded Fingers

By Plagiarize , 9th November 3:42 am

Recently I’ve been buried with review copies of horror related titles, and it’s forced a number of great games to be pushed further down the ‘to be played’ pile than I’d like. Shadow of the Colossus is buried. Call of Cthuhlu. Serious Sam 2. Quake 4. All buried as I slog on with Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil and Resident Evil 4 on PS2. Not that either of those are bad games, in the latter case far from it infact, but I don’t like having my hand forced. It’s hard to sit down and enjoy any time I spare on Call of Cthuhlu because someone else is reviewing it for the horror channel and I still have two games I’m working on reviewing. Still, for the most part I’ve been quite responsible. I’ll have both those games finished and reviewed probably by the end of the week, where upon I’ll run head first into Mario Kart DS… also the X-Box 360 launch looms big and large.

So really, it takes a great game to distract me from my work efforts. Two nights ago I was dedicatedly playing Land of the Dead when I’d have much rather have been playing, well anything else on my ‘to be played’ list. I made a conscious effort to lend Shadow of the Colossus to my brother in law so it wouldn’t distract me. Call of Cthuhlu is the kind of game you have to give at least a couple of hours to at a time, so while I’ve had a couple of play sessions it’s not been that difficult to stop being distracted by it.

Of course, I really I should have known better than running out on Friday and buying Guitar Hero.

A Lesson in Satire

By Plagiarize , 21st October 12:28 am

There are a series of products. It is well recognized that over indulgence in them can lead some people to become more aggressive. I think most people realize that these products are more harmful to children, yet many parents turn a blind eye to it, adults buy these products on children’s behalf, and children manage to buy them by themselves.

There have been plenty of crimes where, it could be argued that if not for these products, the perpetrator wouldn’t have committed them. Attempts have been made to ban them and control them with varying degrees of success, but the problem remains.

The insidious marketers and corporate monoliths that make and advertise them, make them look cool and appealing. Their advertising often appeals to the very children that they claim they aren’t trying to draw in. Whenever anyone dies or kills as a result of their products, they sidestep all blame.

Face of the 360?

By Plagiarize , 7th October 7:33 am

Joanna Dark should look over her shoulder...

It’s time to join me once again for another op-ed piece of speculation and presumption. No, not really, it’s time to talk about the face of the X-Box 360. Like Master Chief on the X-Box, the 360 needs a character to come along and be the poster boy for the console. Master Chief won’t be along for a while. Madden’s rosta of football players are everywhere. The characters in the various war games may as well be faceless. Joanna Dark is looking like she’ll be late to the party too, or the game will be overly rushed (based off of hands on opinions of the title from just a couple of days ago). The Oblivion avatar doesn’t even have a single name or face…

Who is going to step up to the plate? Who is going to be the hero or mascot that ushers in Microsoft’s next gen console? Which game is going to be the one that stands up and says ‘look… this is a platform offering not just new rich worlds, but new gameplay experiences’. The various sports, first person shooters and war games at launch offer unparralled realism, but don’t seem to offer gameplay that couldn’t be done on current hardware.
