About Aelon
Aelon is a gaming and technology site run by a bunch of friends. It’s been around in one form or another since June 2003.
Games + Technology = Blog
Our posts typically revolve around those things which interest us most - topics ranging from computer hardware to film and television, but a lot of the time we’ll be focused on games, both on the PC and console. Technology of course plays a big part too, and we often blog on all sorts of geeky things in this field.
9rules Member
Aelon is also a member of the 9rules Network, a large collection of blogs which share a common goal - quality. Unlike many blog networks, 9rules blogs are all independently run by their members.
A random set of links to other 9rules blogs can be seen to the right; the network encompasses a huge range of topics. Aelon has been a member of 9rules since September 2005.
Dive a Little Deeper
Every website has it’s own history and set of intricacies. Here’s a rundown of ours:
- Aelon originally launched on June 25, 2003 as a games review site run by Cyrris and Holliday. About a year later the site was transformed into a gaming blog to better suit everyone. We have gained some more fresh faces since then, and broadened our scope to include other topics such as technology.
- Our blog is powered by WordPress, and makes use of a sizable bunch of plugins. The custom template has been handcrafted by Cyrris, mostly using Paint Shop Pro and Notepad2. It should also validate for XHTML though for the CSS we’re using some naughty opacity operators…
- The site has gone through 3 logos and 10 designs all up, some from well before the aforementioned launch date. A visual history of the site is up for viewing, for those interested in seeing how it has evolved over the years.
- Syndication is fun! Aelon has both RSS and Atom feeds for the blog, as well as a comments feed. For those who insist, there is also Aelon’s feed on the syndication service FeedBurner.
- The term ‘Aelon‘ (pronounced ‘aye’lon‘) was coined up essentially from mashing the keyboard until something cool-sounding came up, while we looked for a domain name that wasn’t already taken.
- As was discovered later, ‘aelon‘ is Marshallese for ‘island’, so you could perhaps think of it as our own little isle on the ocean that is the world wide web… or something.
- Aelon is hosted by Noack, and yeah, we get a discount on our bills if you sign up with them and say we referred you. Feel obliged. Feel very obliged.
