First impressions of Star Wars: Battlefront
Yes, I hired it today. I couldn’t help myself. And what are my impressions? Read on for the review.
*Nagash-o-meter scores are out of 5
Graphics:
I love the graphics. They look crisp, clean and oh so eye pleasing, and this is on the playstation 2. I can’t begin to imagine what they look like on a top line computer. I expected the graphics to be much like Battlefield Vietnam, but was pleasantly surprised. And they don’t look too realistic either, as this is a space fantasy universe here.
Nagash-o-meter: 4 and 1/2
Audio:
Well done. All the familiar sounds are here, even down to Darth Vaders breathing when you get close to him in the battle. It makes it feel just that much more like you are *in* the Star Wars movies, not just playing a game about them
Nagash-o-meter: 5, definately
Gameplay:
Here is the let down. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the gameplay per say. It just that it’s all been seen before, twice. But seeing AT-ST’s stomping at me through the forest of endor did give me a rather larger scare than seeing tanks coming at me ever did in either of the Battlefield games. The one addition I did find new and enjoyable was the Droideka (Destroyer Droid for you laymen) for the Confederacy. Damn those things are fun to play as. So they influenced my score
Nagash-o-meter: 3
Lastability:
At first, I was rather enjoying the game. Blasting Rebels (and Ewoks), riding around in Star Wars vehicles… It was great fun. Sadly, the game just got less interesting as it drew on. In its defence, I didn’t play any multiplayer, which is where the game is supposed to lie, but hey, what can you do without a broadband connection? The singleplayer options won’t last you very long, as I was finding it too easy on Medium, about what difficulty Easy should have been.
Nagash-o-meter: 2 and 1/2
So my final summation: Battlefront is pretty and new, plays well and has great audio. But the newness wears off quicker than you lose that new car smell, and it won’t hold you very long without multiplayer. Definately worth a rental, but take my advice and try before you buy.

I was never too sure about this game from the get-go. It looked like a cheap cash-in on BF1942’s success using a “hot” license. Its nice that it turned out a bit better than I thought it would but its probably not enough to warrant my purchase. I played BF1942 into the ground and then some, I don’t think I’ll be ready for that kind of gameplay again for a good while.

I found the game to be good, but as Nagash said, The funness wears out pretty quickly. I feel the gameplay could have been improved by tweaking the class/weapon loadouts a bit (I’m not a huge fan of that blast cannon thing).
I find it funny that the clone’s jetpack is nice and smooth and easy to control whereas the Imperials seem to take a more ballistic approach to air travel.

Yeah, the imperials jetpack is like being shot out of a cannon.
Also, what you said was true. The classes and sides weapons just weren’t *different* enough. Everyone has the same basic weapons, and that was one of the things that made it get boring very quickly. They could have used a little more imagination there.
