To hell in so many ways
Well I am back. I actually have been back for a few days but I didn’t make a post right away. Some… things kind of got in the way *cough* Doom 3 *cough*.
Before I get into that I shall wander off on a different tangent, web communities. If the internet was a restaurant it would say “Come for the information, stay for the community”. Communities are really what keeps the internet going; if it wasn’t for them the internet would be nothing more than just a large encyclopedia of less than accuracte information.
I have been involved with many communities during my net-life, from game clans to forums to the growing community Aelon is now. Unfortunately one of the communities I have been a part of for some time now is hitting some rough roads due to forces beyond our control. I am pretty confident things will work out as they are not the type of people just to sit back and let shit get tossed at them, but it still made me realize that specific part of this information age that really makes it worth it.
Anyways to hell we go. Doom 3 is just awesome. I have yet to beat it and will put up a final thought on the game later when I do. But the key element so far is I have just been having a blast. I don’t think I have had this much fun with a game in a while.
Added:
Whoa whoa. Doom 3 just freaked me out enough to stop playing in order to let my heart rate return to normal levels.

Hah, you just wait till you get to Hell, boy. You just wait.
Oh, and would I know this community you are talking about? Would it start with a G?

Well, I believe it technically now starts with an IGN-G, which is the reason for so many of it’s problems now.

Very true indeed. Things have gone way downhill since the merger/takeover/whatever it was

Doc holliday misses a vital point in his description of the internet. Communities, though very much present, do not make out a large, physical part of the internet. Neither does correct or incorrect information. No ladies and gentlemen, from the moment it was concieved we turned the internet into a giant, international database of… naked bottoms. Without communities, all you have a left is a not so little stash of porn, which is good in its own way. Communities are there to share the porn because, lets face it, most people in those communities are guys. And being a guy is all about wanting to see naked bottoms. And if you can enjoy them with your friends, all the better. And I’m not JUST talking about circle jerking here.
…this post went nowhere fast didnt it?

If porn and spam were both minimised by 99%, there’d still be more than enough to go around, and the internet would be a much nicer place. Something to try and do once I’ve achieved world domination…

You are anti spam and porn? YOU MONSTER!
Cyrris, you are banned from the internet.

I can see where Cyrris is coming from. I have no problem with porn but I only want to get porn when I am searching for it. Definitly the same deal with spam. Sometimes it feels like the internet is looking for you rather than you browsing about the internet.

Well, my point is more about how many resources are completely wasted on trivial things. Porn doesn’t really help anyone, yet it uses up an awful lot of resources world-wide. Same with spam, which is worse because it also fills up your inbox, wasting even more space and making email-checking a chore for millions of people.
Think about how many computers are sitting on this planet with no other function than to serve porn and dish out spam. It’s a huge waste of space, electricicty, and processing power.
