MSN Search Beta

By Cereal Samurai

After just plain forgetting to look at it this past week, I finally took a squiz at the new MSN Search, Microsoft’s great white-backgrounded hope against the likes of Google and Yahoo! and, I guess, any of those other less noted search engines. Though the organizational advantages Microsoft boast about it are hard to see at first, continued searching did bring me some rather interesting results.

I got a ripping recipe for Rock Cakes in, like, half a second.

Incorporating the standard “sleeker than you” Microsoft type of layout, and spitting out the results in no majorly different ways, though, leaves it a personal choice. Personally, I like the design and features MSN tends to bring to everything, in particular MSN Messenger. I know many, though, that do not. Whether these kind of “enhancements” will come into fruition - and whether anyone will care - is mostly up in the air. The fact is, Google won me over many years ago, converting me from a search-engine hopping loon to a dedicated user.

What it really comes down to is whether Microsoft will have an easily edited logo to sport funny in-jokes or references depending on what’s happening for that day, like Google often does. If not, then why even bother?

Damn straight, sadly enough I actually check google on holidays just to see what their logo looks like. A true child of the internet.

Microsoft always wants what everyone else has, its like that kid in preschool that always wanted the toy you were playing with while there was 20 something perfectly good toys elsewhere.

Well, what can I say. Doing a search with MSN helped me find a bug on Aelon’s custom 404 error page, which was promptly fixed. Thankyou, Microsoft.

This thing doesn’t even list the pages of results down the bottom like Google does. I always used that thing. I guess this MSN search thingy still has quite a way to go.

I have to say that Google has always been my search engine of preference. I only ever use MSN search when I type a URL in badly and can’t be bothered retyping it over again. Like when I’m looking for thingsmygirlfriendandihavearguedabout.com.

Microsoft… Why can you never be happy? WHY?

What is next? Microsoft brand sunglasses? Microsoft cars? Microsoft publishing company?

    The madness will never end

I’d say microsoft brand condoms but I’d hate to have it be as prone to error as windows.

Yeah, I just wish I had a way to say it more vaguely, so that I could pretend it was an innocent joke and you TWISTED IT WITH YOUR HORRIBLE MIND…

    alas.
