GTA: San Andreas
Rockstar has again, put up another kick ass site. They’re giving us a glimpse of places within Los Santos, one of the three cities with the San Andreas state. The stuff in it looks rather cool; it seems as if they’re making it more interactive with inside environments. I’m pleased that they’re putting in RPG elements into it, which can shape your own character. This includes diet, and visual appearence (so not all Carl Johnson’s will look the same).
If you check out the movies page, they’ve also got a trailer. In this we get to see fence jumping, bumping low riders and more character interaction, by what seems to be gangs. I’m not sure if they’re just cutscenes, but it looks as if you can even play basketball and graffiti in the game. Character models look more detailed than GTA3/VC too.
Looks like a larger leap for the GTA series than GTA3 to GTA:VC ever was.

It does look pretty awesome. I was a bit put off by the lack of a new or significantly enhanced graphics engine. Even the PS2 can, I think, handle more than what GTA3 or VC threw at it.
This is definately going to be one to get when it hits the PC though. Also amusing to see the lack of anything on the HTML version of Rockstar’s site there. Thank God I can view big flash sites now.

Very swank. I’m pretty excited about this, I was going to post something on it myself, but I noticed your thread over at GSF, and figured you’d bring it here, verbatim.
You dirty little whore.

Yeah, you’re right Cyrris. But they have made some effort; better textures for main characters, etc. You have to remember that this game has a lot more than just graphic upgrades; bigger cities, other features, character customization, blah blah. I know the PS2 can handle a lot - just look at this and this. They can fit decent textures/models into the game depending on what the game has in it.
Nothing Doom 3 like, mind you. PS2 is old technology. Hence they want to keep the FPS high. If they wanted to, they could dump higher poly models and textures on the PC version and modify the engine to cope with it, and it would look better. But that’s asking a little much of them.

Well, if Doom3 is apparently so decent on the Xbox, I’m sure the PS2 would be able to cope as well. Maybe not quite as well but close enough, that’s for sure.
Perhaps Rockstar is just doing the last installment using the best the current engine allows for, before going ahead with something completely new.

I am not as excited about GTA:SA as I am that the engine will finally be done with. I am actually thinking of not playing GTA:SA purely because when they go to a new engine I expect little innovation. Although they did bring GTA into 3d and brought innovation in droves so you never know.

Doom 3 is gonna take a while before getting released on the xbox. (click here)
Also, the Xbox would be able to do it a lot better than other consoles (PS2, GameCube), for the simple reason that the xbox is the only console that supports pixel/vertex shaders.
