Doom 3 Specs
[H]ard|OCP has a good overview of how well Doom 3 is expected to run on people’s systems. They’ve tested the game on a wide variety of systems, from a 1.5GHz Pentium with a GeForce4 MX, right up to the best of the best, and with a good lot of medium-spec combinations in between. Apparently the game can run well enough to be worth it even on the smallest system they used.
My own PC wasn’t resembled in their test, because my processor and video card are a league away from each other, but it would appear as though I’m expected to be able to run in 800×600 with medium graphics settings. I’m hoping it’ll go well if I try 1024×768, as I really can’t stand playing in anything less, despite what the [H]ard dudes say about resolutions and aliasing being less notiecable in this game.

Quite a good set of articles. Its nice how they show screenshots right next to each other instead of just talking about it. Also something you don’t see much when comparing video cards is the ‘big picture’ style thinking. Which basically says that sure you’ll notice certain things if you take screenshots and compare them, but in-game it won’t even cross your mind.
I am excited as hell now that its so close. Plus I’ll be able to do High Settings at at least 1024×768. Too bad I won’t be around August 3rd but I should pick it up around the 5th or 6th.

Pretty cool; a friend of mine with a Radeon 9500, 384mb RAM and 1GHz processor can run it at high, on 800×600 with good frame rates.
I’m also hearing stories of people running it on a 9800 Pro at 1600×1200 on high details with little slowdown. Obviously they must have a higher spec PC, but still, it sounds good.

Now that is comforting. My specs are a good lot better than that, especially thanks to my video card’s awesome overclock. One thing I also read in that article was that anti-aliasing wasn’t so necessary, because of the dark atmosphere. That’s also good news for me, because aliasing drives me nuts.

From my experience with the alpha versions the [H]ard guys really hit the nail on the head about anti-aliasing. The first few times I played it I hadn’t found the Config file someone added. So it just played with some defaults and was looking awesome. Later when i found the file it turned out I was running the game at 800×600 yet I barely noticed. With all the texture and lighting effects there is rarely jagged edges of high contrast.

The new compression technique should definately become an industy standard. Maybe programs will stop becoming so ridiculously hardware intensive
